More coffee, better harvests and a future for Mexico's coffee-growing families.
About the programWhy it exists
Five challenges Mexican coffee can overcome:
-
Healthy farms
Recover the output that coffee rust cut by up to 70%.
-
New plants
Renew aging trees so they are productive again.
-
Access to credit
So farmers can invest in their farms.
-
Climate adaptation
Growing well in an increasingly variable climate.
-
Next generation
So young people see a future in coffee.
Our answer
Por Más Café · 2014
In 2014, Exportadora de Café California created Por Más Café: an integrated economic and social development model for smallholder farmers, who grow 90% of the country's coffee. Its vision: coffee once again as the main driver of the economy in Mexico's coffee-growing regions.
What we do
Each farmer receives a package of services tailored to their farm. They bring their experience and their work; we support them with everything else.
Renovation
Renovation, rehabilitation and establishment of coffee plantations with rust-resistant varieties.
Nutrition and inputs
Fertilization and quality inputs so the renovated plants reach production.
Technical assistance
Field technicians who visit the farm, plus agronomic and business training.
Financing
Credit and insurance so farmers can invest in their coffee plantations.
Guaranteed purchase
A buyer for the harvest and access to the international coffee market.
Traceability
A record of farmers, plots and lots: coffee is traced from the farm to the customer.
